Xiaomi Note 3

Hello Geeks,

I’m really sorry for the delay in this review. Today I wanted to tell you all about a phone that is a silent release of Xiaomi the Xiaomi Note 3(Priced at Rs.10,000 to Rs.12,000).

As we all are familiar with the brand Xiaomi Inc., a Chinese company which was launched in India last year. The brand has grown with an exponential rate just because of one reason, the company gives better specs in an affordable price. So now without wasting any further time lets start discussing about the Note 3.

Build Quality:

The build quality gives a very descent look and the curves perfectly fits into the hands. The phone is built with metal expect the top and the bottom caps which are made of plastic. The phone has nicely placed finger print sensor at the back like some of the other phones. The other visible things in the phone is an IR blaster on the top cap, the flash and camera placed at the rear center, the volume rockers and the power button placed on the right hand side of the phone, the speaker grills at the bottom. The front side of the phone is simple with the on board lightly illuminated navigation keys, the earpiece, the 5.5′ screen and the camera. So now lets talk about the screen display.

The phone house a 5.5′ screen. This is a IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display having 16M colours. The screen takes around 72.5% of the body so you can see that there is a fairly large border given to the screen on top and bottom. The screen has a 1080×1920 pixel resolution giving a fairly good 403 ppi pixel density. The contrast of the phone is not as expected and is slightly lower than its competitors and its older generation. But the adaptive brightness works very well in the outdoor conditions. Now going inside the phone, lets talk about the OS.

The phone comes out of the box with MIUI 7 running on Android 5.1. The phone might get the marshmallow update from Xiaomi but it is not confirmed. Though you will not receive the stock android experience but the MIUI ROM is very much stable and doesnt lag in the day to day usage but there might be some issues running google apps in the Chinese version. Over all the OS experience is good and I dont have any complains with the OS but the people using stock android or other custom built ROMs might not like that the MIUI 7 doesnt give any app drawer and all the apps are shown the main screen itself. Now lets discuss upon a very important topic, Battery.

The phone has a 4000 mAh battery on board which is non-removable. This is good enough to last for a day or more on regular usage without docking it again. This is pretty good in todays era of low budget smartphones. The phone also supports fast charge which charges the phone quickly. Now let’s talk about the camera experience on the phone.

The phone comes with a 16MP camera on the rear and 5MP on the front side. The phone shoots good photos but not up to the mark. The rear camera shoots good photos but the photos taken outdoors seems to be under exposed. The HDR function comes here to rescue but increases the shutter time to some odd seconds. The indoor artificial light photography is not upto the expectations as there are some visible digital noise coming in the photos. Overall the camera does not performs to the users expectations. The speakers is also a very important part of a phone, so now lets talk about the speakers on board.

The speakers are nice but on full volumes and bass there is some distortion coming in the sound. Also the speakers are placed on the bottom of the back panel which blocks the sound when kept on the table. Ok so now lets talk about something interesting the finger print sensor.

Finger print sensor:

The finger print sensors are new to smartphones. The finger print scanner which is housed on the back panel of the phone gives faster unlocking techniques to the users. You just have to place your finger on the sensor and the phone unlocks. The sensor is very accurate and is above my expectations in this price range. The sensors takes around less than half a second to detect and verify the finger print. Overall the sensor is of a high quality and is well supported by the software.

In the Box:

1. Phone

2. Standard mico USB cable

3. Wall adapter

4. Paper work

Thank you for reading… Do mention in the comments about the next phone review or the extra things that you need to make a better decision to buy the phone.
